Ask a Servicemember what he or she needs while on deployment, and he or she will tell you, "Take care of my family." Beyond the Yellow Ribbon is a comprehensive program that creates awareness for the purpose of connecting Servicemembers and their families with community support, training, services, and resources.
What is a Yellow Ribbon Community?
A Yellow Ribbon Community unites all areas within a community to create a comprehensive network that connects and coordinates agencies, organizations, resources, and employers for the purpose of proactively supporting service members and military families.
South Central Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Network
The South Central Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Network includes the counties of Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, Freeborn, Le Sueur, Martin, Nicollet, Rice, Sibley, Steele, Waseca, and Watonwan.
By synchronizing efforts across these counties, they have partnered with the County Veteran Service Officers to identify veteran needs. They've reached out to these veterans through a marketing and communication plan aimed at getting the Yellow Ribbon support message to every military family.
They also bring military families together through various events, including Mankato Moon Dog baseball games in the summer and babysitting events that allow military parents to finish their Christmas shopping.
Supporting military children is very important to this network. They have committed to identifying the military families within their school districts and have created ongoing training for school administrators and staff.
This group supports all branches of veterans and military personnel, along with their families within the South Central Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Network area.
